Hello,
I am new to programming and backtesting in Python. I have taken a bunch of different classes over the last 5 weeks or so. I get the jist of Python and Panadas, but when it comes time to write down ideas I struggle. Is this normal or am I going about this wrong? I really enjoy writing code although I must admit it is really just using code along. I am not giving up but what in your experience is the best way to get used to writing codes. When I go off on my own I feel completely lost. Although I am happy I can read code pretty well, just can't write it to save my life.

The best thing to do is jump off the deep end and start writing python programs from scratch. You'll come across numerous unexpected problems and have to work through them. For every question there is an answer on stackoverflow. Check out quantstart.com, its a good resource to get started with algo trading. Hope that helps.
