Hello Jared and all members,
I am former discretionary trader (too grueling emotionally). I am trying to switch to complete autotrading. Since I am averse to risk almost all my strategies will be daytrading strategies and close all positions by end of day. I mainly trade futures /CL, /SPI /TF /DAX etc.
I will freely post all strategies, they are common knowledge. My education is in computer hardware not software.
Beware of over optimization where strategy will work well on one set of data but not another.
At the very least any strategy should be at the very least breakeven on any set of data with commission and slippage included.

Hi all, I recently read about QuantConnect and decided to sign up for an account. I'm familiar with Tradestation Easylanguage and use that to test my strategies, but wanted to try something not tied to a specific brokerage and programmer focused. I'm still looking around, but was wondering if 1) there are existing libraries for candlestick reversal patterns (to not reinvent the wheel) and 2) if the Prime subscription price is locked in and will not increase once I subscribe.

Welcome Brian, we're certainly broker agnostic and programmer focused! 1) There are no candle stick reversal patterns yet, though I'd be happy to share the code I wrote for this a few years ago. Would you be interested in tidying it up and contributing it to the open source project? 2) Yes the current subscriber prices will be locked in as long as you're a member. Only new subscribers will need to pay higher rates.

Hi All!

My name is Chad and I'm a Java programmer. I'd like to develop a more aggressive retirement plan that I control. Currently, the Java project creation link isn't working for me... I'd rather not learn C#, but it's looking like that will be my lowest barrier to getting started with this IDE.

I'm looking forward to automating some ideas that have worked decently well in the past via manual trading platforms.

Regards,
Chad

Hello

My name is displayed as Nicholas Caffrey but I usually go by DJ. I'm an 18 year old soon-to-be sophomore in college and I've been giving my all in chasing a career in finance and algorithmic trading since 2013. I first started on Rizm's widget-based algo platform but after some success, realization of Rizm's inferiority, and newfound determination to make the next leap for my career I have decided to pick up C# as my main language and quantconnect as my main platform.

Since reading Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie while on psychedelic trip, I have been hell-bent on amassing an endless fortune so I can conduct global-scale experiments with education: my life's objective at this moment is to pour billions into perfecting the concept and practice of education which will be centered around the sheer power and potential of metacognition and cultivation of willpower. As a testament to this goal, I have spent the last 2 years teaching myself this field that is known to be "xenophobic" and of near unfathomable difficulty.

I look forward to making breakthroughs alongside this community and wish all of you safe travels on your path of life.

Best,
DJ

Hello all. It's nice to see that QuantConnect has an active community! I'm a software engineer. I've been working with a couple of friends on developing automated trade algos for about 18 months now. It's been a steep learning curve, but the topic is very interesting. I'm excited to be a part of the community!

Hi all. I am Matthew, currently doing discretionary trading on Futures & ForEx. My past careers include programming algormithms in Java & C & C++ & Python; I am interested in algorithm coding for quantative analysis; I have never done back-testing so I found quantConnect to practice. I have been a VP of Engineer and CTO and Senior Software Architect for micro-services in past careers together with hands on coding in JavaScipt, Objective-C, C, C++, and database implementations.

Hi! I'm so happy such a community exist.  I come from Quebec, Canada.

Now I have a general idea how Python work, but I'm still a beginner.  I see lots of people using C language : Is there a specific section for programmers who use python?

I'm looking for the super basic stuff, examples.  I red all the documentation, I'm ready for the practical stuff, but I just don't know where to start, yep! :)

Is the community is divided by section?

Thanks

I look foward to evolved in the great world of algo

Hi, I've been trading commodities for the last 6 years and have some basic concepts i do manually that i want to automate. Hopefully figure out the more complicated stuff later on down the line too. First i'd just like to learn how i can draw trendlines and use them to do a basic trade. I have a basic grasp of Python and coding as i used to make websites and have been learning basic python. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I am completely new to algorithmic trading but have done years of machine learning. I have a couple of orthogonal ideas that and I am hopeful they will produce interesting results.

Hi!

I'm new here... I would like to register as an Alpha Developer but i dont have a LinkedIn account, is there any way around it? I would also like to learn more about Alpha Streams, what is considered a good alpha, what are review criterias, how the marketplace looks like and ... more :)

Kind regards,

Gregor

Welcome Gregor! Its one of the variables funds will use in the selection process. They'll ideally want to see a robust network and social-proof of employment history. Its important evidence to help avoid concerns about using misappropriated algorithms. That said -- you can sign up for a new LinkedIn account with 0 connections to start; we might just need to do some other manual background checks if the rest of the alpha passes selection.

Regarding a good alpha -- this is the beauty of Alpha Streams! Each fund in the marketplace will have different criterias and it increases the chances of your selection. We've launched with 1 fund so far (Tibra) and will be adding more over the next year. Tibra trades all asset classes and time frames.

Individual alpha's don't need to be "amazing" (as most of the time that would just be curve fitting). Funds will combine 1000's of them together and form an aggregate decision. They should take some theory or vision of the world and build a signal which trades on it.

Hi,
I recently started working on the QC platform as it's the only truely open and flexible algo platform that I'm aware of that supports options backtesting and live trading, which opens the door to the wonderful world of options algos at a low entry cost.

This platform and community interactiion that Jared and his team have made available is really awesome - definitely democritising finance and much appreciated :)

I'm a software engineer with wide ranging experience in many languages and domains and also an experienced equities, futures, forex and options trader.

Best Regards,
Ern.
